June 30, 1999 the MGCarClub went to Watkins Glenn Racetrack for the
Trackmasters sponsored "KIDS DAY AT THE GLENN". The children from a
local camp - 'Camp Good Days and Special Times' brought to the track and members
from Trackmasters and the MGCARCLUB bring their sports and race cars and give
the kids rides around the track.
Everyone enjoys the day. There is no passing allowed and speeds are kept
reasonable - more than 55 mph, less than 155mph (joking). Of course there
was no rule on how fast you could get to cruising speed. There were about
50-60 cars and 4 busloads of kids. You picked up a rider, pulled onto the track
and did 2-3 laps, pulled in and picked up another one. This went on for over an
hour so you get a chance to see how well you car performs getting up to speed,
slowing down, back up, etc., really pushing much differently than street driving for over an hour. I had no problems we the car except for the
start of a brake fad on the last couple laps.
When I pulled in to the pit to pick up a rider, the temp would rise up to my
high mark, but as soon as I got moving again, it would drop right down to just
above half again. Other than that, I'm very pleased. The Nokia tires are
excellent, felt like glue on the track.
Here's a couple picks one of the members took - Coming out of the pit to the
track feeder -
It a real thrill to run across the same line the worlds best drivers have crossed
